A Stacked Sensor-Processor Combo

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II Mirrorless Camera features the latest DIGIC Accelerator processing engine from Canon that allows for the introduction of a stacked, back-illuminated sensor design. All this while maintaining and building on the high resolution of the predecessor.
These operate alongside the DIGIC X, the Canon EOS R 5 Mark II combines RAW image quality with high-volume and deep learning databases to produce higher quality subject tracking and recognition, pre-continuous capture, blackout-free shooting, video resolution, maximum recording time, and more.

Autofocus and Deep Learning

With better processing speeds, the Canon EOS R system’s already high autofocus speeds benefit by incorporating deep learning datasets into the Dual Pixel intelligence AF. This allows for leaps in advancements in subject recognition and tracking, while also improving the Eye Control Focus feature as found in the Cannon EOS R3.
The high level of analysis produced by the processor will keep the focused subject locked, even when similar subjects cross one another within the frame. All focus points, including heads, eyes, upper bodies and joint structures are all tracked, including other persons than the main subject and the ball.
Action Priority Menu setting for still photos identifies sport-specific events, actions, and ball positions for soccer, basketball, and volleyball. To enhance autofocus on a specific single subject in a frame, you can photograph, or upload an image of up to 10 subjects.

Eye Control Focus

Simply by looking through the EVF, the Canon EOS R5 II can initiate a focus point by determining where you are looking through the electronic viewfinder. Further, the detection frame rates are nearly doubled by employing newly developed camera optics and a revised line-of-sight detection algorithm.

Electronic Shutter

Chief among the benefits of the new sensor and processor combination provides you with the ability to shoot high-quality, high-resolution at blazing speeds.

  • Continuous shooting speeds of up to 30 fps full-frame raw with reduced shutter distortion, with up to 12 fps when using the mechanical shutter
  • Supports always-on blackout-free display when using the electronic shutter
  • For indoor sports shooters, the camera effectively suppresses flicker in LED lighting environments by detecting refresh frequencies
  • An electronic shutter allows flash sync speeds of up to 1/250s

Pre-Continuous Shooting

Another new feature in the Canon EOS R5II is the ability to back up 15 shots of pre-continuous shooting, this can be done by half-pressing the shutter button before firing. When the shutter button is fully pressed, 15 frames prior is recorded to the memory card to enable you to go back in time to recover a decisive moment in the 1.5 seconds prior.

Noise Reduction and In-Camera Upscaling

The wide native ISO range of 100-51200 suites working in a wide variety of lighting conditions, along with the DIGIC Accelerator that enables the use of Neural Network Noise Reduction that enables clearer images, especially when using higher sensitivities.
The same processing power also allows you to create stills in higher resolutions at up to 179MP using In-Camera Upscaling. This deep learning-based tool doubles the number of pixels horizontally and vertically to produce a larger, more detailed image with maintained sharpness and clarity.

Coordinated Control Image Stabilization

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II Mirrorless Camera features a lightweight and compact design allowing for easy handheld use with coordinated controls to achieve high handheld shake correction effects. Assisted by the five-axis in-body stabilisation (IBIS) that corrects up to 8.5 stops and 7.5 at the edges of unwanted handheld camera shake, and allowing you to shoot at lower frame rates.
Additionally, Movie Digital IS uses optical and sensor-shift stabilization methods along with digital IS to help acquire steadier footage while moving.

A Cinema EOS-Integrated 8K Powerhouse

The R5II is designed to be loved by both video and still shooters while employing many of the Cinema EOS camera’s features and workflow. Enabled by the 45MP Full-Frame sensor, you will have high-resolution DCI 8K RAW video recording internally at up to 60 fps as well as 4K SRAW aven at full sensor width.
All effective pixels from the full frame 8K sensor make 4:2:2 10-bit recording possible through oversampling during 4K and 2K recording. It also allows for the recording of High Frame Rate (HFR) movies with sound at up to 120p at DCI/UHD 4K resolutions (4096 x 2160/3840 x 2160) in 4:2:2 10-bit without cropping the sensor. MXF-based XF-AVC, which offers 10-bit 4:2:2 files, as well as the highly versatile MP4 for lightweight proxy files in various professional workflows are supported.
Canon Log 3, Canon Log 2, PQ, and HLG is supported. Log3 is a gamma designed for simple grading like tightening dark areas and adjusting tones. Another benefit is seamless integration with other Cinema EOS system footage. Canon Log 2, PQ, and HLG in-camera custom picture profiles are also supported. You will also find integrated waveform, false colour and zebra display, along with a tally lamp.

Body and Connectivity

Above the LCD touchscreen on the Canon EOS R5 MII you will find a 5.76m-dot, 0.76x-magnification OLED electronic viewfinder providing clear high-resolution eye-level viewing at a 120fps refresh rate that supports blackout-free viewing. The 3.2″ vari-angle LCD touchscreen allows you to take shots and record video from a wide variety of shooting angles. The LCD screen provides vivid playback, live-view monitoring, and more through the 4.15m-dot resolution.
A wide variety of file recording options is available, these include a CFexpress Type B card slot for raw video recording as well as a single UHS-II SD card slot for backups and less speed-critical shooting.
